This half-term, Year 6 have been diving into the British Value of democracy - discovering just how powerful our voices can be when we stand up and speak out!
Taking inspiration from the amazing Lewisham Young Mayor candidates (including a former St Stephen’s pupil), our oldest pupils rolled up their sleeves and set to work crafting their very own persuasive speeches. They mastered the art of using punchy slogans, bold promises, and passionate words to get their big ideas across.
Next came the main event! Showing lots of courage and resilience, the children took centre stage in a special assembly to deliver their speeches. Every single candidate blew us away with their confidence, pitching brilliant plans to make our school an even better place to learn and play.
Then, the excitement really kicked in - it was election time! Just like in a real polling station, every child from Year 2 to Year 6 cast their vote in a ballot to pick the leaders for Faith, Hope, Charity, and Grace.
The votes have been counted, and we are really proud to announce our newly elected House Captains and Deputies! They’ve already been presented with their shiny new badges during a whole-school celebration. Over the coming year, these fantastic leaders will be taking on big responsibilities, running house events, and representing our school with pride.
A huge well done to all our Year 6 candidates for rising to the occasion, and congratulations to our new House Captains and Deputies!
